Paul Reverse Life Insurance is a subsidiary of the Unum Coproration. Recognizable due to its odd name, Unum is based out of Tennessee and operated previously under the name UnumProvident. That earlier-named company was a result of a merger between two insurance businesses, Unum of Maine and Provident Life and Accident of Tennessee.
Surprisingly, despite its name not being well known under any version by consumers, the company holds the title as being the largest disability insurance company globally. As a result, Unum today specializes in disability insurance, life insurance and critical illness coverage for its customers, which are predominantly businesses and companies themselves purchasing related group plans.
The company originally began operations in 1848 under a predecessor business named Union Mutual Life Insurance Company. In 1986 Unum represented the first mutual insurance corporation to place itself on the stock market for public ownership, renaming itself Unum Corporation in the process.
Today, Unum operates in both the U.S. as well as the United Kingdom, capturing overseas European businesses through its U.K. offices. The company also operates under a different branch subsidiary, Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company. Nationwide, Unum employs 10,000 workers working in five major locations across the U.S. as well as 38 field office cities. Unum also does business as Paul Revere Life Insurance Company.
